Antarctica to explore the White Desert
Antarctica has this mythic weight. It resides in the collective unconscious of so many people, and it makes this huge impact, just like outer space. It’s like going to the moon.
-Jon Krakauer -
White Desert Whichaway Camp is a unique camp site on the most remote location in the world, situated within the heart of Antarctica, one of the last great wildernesses on earth. After a five-hour flight across the Southern Ocean, you will touchdown in Antarctica experience a unique landing on the Wolf’s Fang Runway where you are welcomed with a drink. Afterwards, you will continue your voyage by a 30 min flight with a Dc3 Basler to the heart of Antarctica and encounter an extraordinary ecological camp set in one of the last great wildernesses on earth where you will spend your evenings in great grandeur.
The Whichaway camp is like no other, the ultimate base for your Antarctic adventure. Spacious world-class sleeping pods are designed for two people with around 6m in diameter and featuring a wash area and toilet. Separate to the sleeping pod there is a communal shower pod, a comfortable lounge area and a kitchen, where an award-winning chef prepares mouth-watering meals.
Activities can be as easy and gentle or adventurous and adrenaline fuelled. Climb the nearby Nunatak mountain, explore the Schirmacher Oasis - a rare stretch of terra firma surrounded by the ice cap of Antarctica. Visit the Geographic South Pole and the research base and learn all about ongoing scientific explorations.

Day 1 (Arrival):
Arriving in Cape town, you will be awaited by your private driver to take you to your hotel. The rest of the day is to your leisure.
Day 2 (Cape Town):
Fill your day to your own leisure or design the day together with your Travel Advisor to explore Cape Town with unique experiences. In the afternoon you will receive a safety briefing. This is where we will check all your polar clothing and prepare you for your journey to the White Desert.
Day 3 (Wolfs Fang Runway):
The flight to Antarctica is 5 hours, crossing the thousands of icebergs spread over the Southern Ocean. Halfway through the flight we cross into the polar circle and into 24 hours continuous daylight. Landing on the ice runway, you will be surrounded by the Wolfs Fang runway, a true spectacle on the continent. We spend the afternoon amongst kilometre-high monoliths of rock, before connecting to Whichaway Camp.
Day 4 (Nunatak):
Your polar explorer will draw on his polar experience to teach you how to survive and even be comfortable in Antarctica. Our first adventure begins at the base of a stunning nunatak mountain. With crampons on your feet and an ice-axes in your hands, we will scale a vertical wall of ice and top out on the summit. On the return you will get on a fleet of Arctic truck 6x6 vehicles and discover just how capable these machines are in this environment. Learn to drive on incredible routes over seemingly impossible terrain!
Day 5 (True Explorer):
Tonight, we camp out to get ready, help you pack your sled and ensure you are ready for one of the most remote campsites on earth. We will cross country ski (or walk) into the mountains, passing huge cliff faces, wind scoops and iridescent blue ice. As you zip the door of your tent closed, you will experience what it is like to be a true explorer.
Day 6 (Ice Tunnels and Caves):
We dig into the ice tunnels and caves near Whichaway Camp, where the white landscape betrays nothing of the extraordinary environment just beneath the surface. Created by melt water, the caves extend for hundreds of metres and are a magical place to explore. Later that day, we climb across a 60 meters rock that overlooks the ice waves. While the walk is not technically difficult, it might get the adrenalin pumping, and will prove to be the perfect way to complete this unique experience.
Day 7 (Back to Cape Town):
Arrival back in Cape town, you will be transferred back to your hotel where you can spend the rest of your day to your leisure.
Day 8 (Back Home):
Enjoy your wonderful lunch and late check-out, today is to prepare going back home.
