Set sail on a unique expedition to the Alexander Archipelago, Alaska. This entire archipelago is covered with breathtakingly landscapes and extraordinary wildlife. When sailing these waterways, you will be daunted by your surroundings. Go into the woods in search for the brown bears, and spot humpback whales and orcas splash against a backdrop of glaciers and icebergs. Sail along the famed Inside Passage and find yourself in the middle of the rugged evergreen covered islands of the Archipelago. Sail through narrow fjords and wonder at massive glaciers. This voyage will provide an intimate look at the real Alaska and will let you experience this incredible phenomenon from one of the most unique positions in the world.
On 14-March-2025, this extraordinary location will be the prime scene for a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon - the blood moon. It will be completely visible for more than a full hour. It will be seen rising over New Zealand and eastern Asia and setting over western Europe and western Africa. It will be the first of two total lunar eclipses in 2025. The moon will take place near apogee during this eclipse, making it appear smaller than usual. The second eclipse will take place on 7-September-2025, happening near perigee. Occurring only 3.4 days before apogee (Apogee on 17-March-2025), the moon's apparent diameter will be 5.4% smaller than average.
Together with our Partners we created an epic 10-day itinerary around this beautiful archipelago, where we sail inwards to really discover one of the most picturesque and remote regions in the world, be astounded by the untouched wilderness and landscapes. Sail the Revillagigedo Island, Baranof Island, and Glacier Bay National Park, explore the bays along Stephens Passage and into the Tracy Arm inlet towards the South Steward Glacier.
On the day of the eclipse, the perfect viewpoint will be awaiting on the helideck. Being onboard a Amels SeaXplorer, like La Datcha, will provide an unprecedented stability and the perfect angle. Walking up to the observation lounge you will have latest Unistellar eVscope 2 smart telescope at your disposal, so that you can watch the eclipse from your iPad Pro. During the event you will be joined by a professional nature photographer that will share his experience on how to create impressive footage.
If not willing to wait until 14-March-2025, not a problem, there are more opportunities to witness a Lunar eclipse until then, on 14-October-2023 best seen in North & South America; on 08-April-2024 best seen in North America; or on 02-October-2024 best seen in the Aysen region in Chile. On any of these locations we can create impressive itineraries by yacht or on land. No matter the situation we face, we can guaranty it will be an event that will provide the wildest stories and memories.
