The natural world is capable of amazing displays - with many best viewed from on board.- Olivia Michel - Home - V&J in Press - BOAT International BOAT International April-2023 The natural world is capable of amazing displays - with many best viewed from on board. - Olivia Michel - It is with great joy that we see Olivia Michel featuring Voyages & Journeys in BOAT International. For her article about the greatest shows on Earth, Jasper talked to Olivia about how we combine the rare natural phenomena with yacht expeditions. Article excerpt: The aurora australis is another reason why the southern skies spark interest. Just like the Northern Lights, this phenomenon occurs when electrically charged solar particles collide with oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the earth’s atmosphere. “The Southern Lights are not that well known,” says Jasper Sigon, co-founder of Voyages & Journeys. He notes that while the colours produced can be even more vibrant, they are “much more elusive than their northern hemisphere counterpart”. The best places to witness them, he says, are around Hobart and Bruny Island in Tasmania between May and August or during the September equinox (when the northern and southern hemispheres experience roughly the same amount of daytime) – and even as far as the Antarctic continent at 70 degrees south where there is significantly less land mass. “This is why we love to carry out this experience by yacht,” explains Sigon, adding that his choice of charter yacht for clients is 39-metre The Beast, which he describes as “the ultimate yacht to chase the lights.” Voyages & Journeys is planning a trip around the upcoming total lunar eclipse (or blood moon) on 14 March 2025, suggesting the 77-metre explorer yacht La Datcha as the perfect vessel to travel to the eclipse’s prime viewing point: the Gulf of Alaska. < Previous Article Next Article >

- Ocean Bottle and Voyages & Journeys | Voyages & Journeys
Conservation and preservation of our global ecosystems stands at the core of our ethos. Home - The Numinous - Ocean Bottle Ocean Bottle and Voyages & Journeys August-2022 Sadly, plastic is polluting our global oceans at an incredible pace. Conservation and preservation of our global ecosystems stands at the core of our ethos and with Voyages & Journeys you explore with purpose - through our unique adventures we are able to support conservation projects around the globe. Everyone, every being, deserves a clean and healthy environment. We are super excited to announce our partnership with Ocean Bottle, a company that makes a real impact on the state of our oceans. Each bottle funds the collection of 11.4kg of plastic, the equivalent to 1000 plastic bottles, and stops them from ever entering our blue world. We are always looking for new ways to create more awareness for conservation and preservation. Once that we are so aligned with the mission to save the oceans, and concern about the critical impact that plastic is having on every form of life, we have decided to partner-up with the Ocean Bottle to support their long-term solution to the plastic crisis. Every traveller that travels with V&J will receive a customised V&J Ocean Bottle, so before you even kick off your next adventure you are already making a crucial impact. The bottle itself is part stainless steel and part ocean-bound recycled plastic, it has been created to last a lifetime, it is easily recyclable and never compromises on impact. How does it work? Plastic Collectors (locals around the globe) collect plastic from river systems and along the coastlines before it enters the ocean. The collected plastic goes to collection points where it can be exchanged by financial support. These collection points support the Collectors to get access to social recourses, such as health care, tuition, or financial advice. The collected plastic will be upcycled or co-processed sustainably into new products, such as the Ocean Bottle. It is such a privilege to see our V&J Ocean Bottles during your journeys and adventures. Thank you and make sure that you share a picture of your bottle – do not forget to tag #TheOceanBottle or @oceanbottle and us on your social media to raise as much awareness as possible. < Previous Article Next Article >

His goal? To let people discover the exceptional planet and create everlasting memories.- Mical Joseph - Home - V&J in Press - Masters Expo Masters Expo February-2021 His goal? To let people discover the exceptional planet and create everlasting memories. - Mical Joseph - Each week a unique MASTERS Member is highlighted. A MASTERS Member is a member of MASTERS League. Jasper Sigon is the Co-founder of Voyages & Journey. He devises customized travel concepts for the high-end and executes them from A to Z. His goal? To let people discover the exceptional planet and create everlasting memories. Voyages & Journeys In late 2018, Jasper and his associate launched the exclusive travel agency Voyages & Journeys. Focused on the upper segment, he creates the most beautiful and exclusive tailor-made trips. He lets people discover the world in a sustainable and responsible way. Everything is arranged from A to Z: from a special safari in South Africa to heliskiing in Greenland, nothing is too crazy for them. "When a client approaches us, I first build a relationship of trust. Based on all the ideas and wishes that the client has indicated beforehand, I make three concepts. I present those concepts to the client and one concept comes out of that. Then our strengths emerge: my partner and I can also travel with the customer(s)," said Jasper. Unlike regular travel agencies, at Voyages & Journeys it doesn't stop immediately after conceiving and planning the trip, because Jasper and his partner continue until the best result is achieved. Best of the Best Over the years, Voyages & Journeys has had the opportunity to work closely with conservationists, biologists and naturalists. This has allowed exploration of the most undiscovered and ecologically diverse destinations around the world. On each trip, attention is paid to the smallest details to provide a unique perspective on biodiversity, wildlife, culture and traditions. MASTERS League "At the beginning of 2021, I joined the MASTERS League. I have been visiting MASTERS EXPO since 2017. A few weeks back I got the opportunity to join the League because the whole concept, the look and the accessibility attract me a lot. I had been looking to join something similar for a while. Especially to share my drive with other people and entrepreneurs I just find very interesting." »»» For the original publication click here ««« < Previous Article Next Article >

- The Dolce Vita Way of Skiing | Voyages & Journeys
The perfect way to kick off any winter season in style, dedicated to excellent skiing, food and wine. Home - The Numinous - Skiing The Dolce Vita Way of Skiing October-2023 Besides being one of our founders’ favourite ski destinations, in January-2023, Jasper Sigon (V&J Co-Founder) returned to the amazing Super Dolomiti Ski region, together with the incredible team from the Alta Badia brand. We created a unique gourmet safari combined with epic skiing. The following narrative is written by Jasper himself to share his own experience and inspire you for the next season. After an energizing breakfast at our accommodation, the marvellous La Majun Hotel, we collected the ski gear and head up the mountain in La Villa. After a good warmup downhill on a black slope, we started skiing from one amazing slope to the other, each with breathtaking views over the Dolomites, and from one hut to the next to taste one of the new dishes from local and internationally renowned chefs, such as Norbert Niederkofler (Executive Chef at Restaurant St.Hubertus at Hotel Rosa Alpina, 3 Michelin-star and 1 green star), and Simone Cantafio (Restaurant La Stüa de Michil at Hotel La Perla, 1 Michelin-star). They brought truly outstanding cuisine to the slopes of Alta Badia at a height of 2.000m, inspired by the best products of the region, based on their own philosophy in the kitchen. True works-of-art will be presented, not only for the palate, but also for the eye. To make it even more awe inspiring, the chefs created their dishes with the focus on reducing waste and protecting our planet. On top of all of that, each dish was accompanied by South Tyrolean wine, chosen by a South Tyrolean sommelier. The next day we headed out very early and went up by snow mobile to have breakfast at 2.000m in the Las Vegas lodge. Witnessing the sun rise against the massif Dolomites is a definitely a memorable view. Afterwards, we were joined by Damian Pallestrong, a local professional slalom, alpine and cross-country skier from Alta Badia. Following a short briefing, we started The Great War Ski Tour, that stretches for 80km, to discover some of the dramatic events of the World War I (WWI). We headed out to Cortina d’Ampezzo to ski the Super 8 & Cinque Torri loop, surrounded by the splendid views of the Col di Lana, the Tofana di Rozes, the Castelletto and the Col dei Bos. Damian explained and showed us the Italian trenches of WWI and how strategical important the Dolomites were, and still are. Did you know that the technical term Alpine Skier originates from the Ladin culture? And today, they are still born alpine and cross-country skiers! We then headed to the heart of the Dolomites, the highest peak in the Alta Badia region, Mount Lagazuoi at 2.732m. On our way up with the cable car, we could clearly see the loopholes of the Italian mine tunnel and the Tre Sassi Fort on the road to the Valparola Pass. When we arrived at the summit, we directly turned right off piste to the the Austrian emplacement Feldwache 4 (FW 4), the only emplacement on the front line of WWI that can be reached on skis. It was dug into the ridge, called Muraglia Rocciosa by the Italians; a rock wall fortified by the Austro-Hungarian soldiers to defend the Lagazuoi saddle. This emplacement is a tunnel dug into the rock with two armored emplacements for machine guns and two embrasures for the observation of the areas Col dei Bos and Castelletto. After this stunning experience we descended to the Armentarola slope to continue with one of the most stunning environments of the Dolomites. The following day, it was time for the “Sommelier on the slopes ski tour”. When we stepped out of the gondola, we met with a ski instructor and professional sommelier. After a short route briefing, we set out from ski hut to ski hut. From top wine to top wine, a true wine ski safari or in Ladin language, De dl Vin. Involving truly mesmerizing skiing on Alta Badia's slopes, combined with the chance to taste South Tyrol's finest wines at the most outstanding mountain huts, such as, Ütia de Bioch, Club Moritzino, Ütia I Tablá, Ütia Las Vegas Lodge, Ütia Lé, Ütia Tamá and Ütia Pic Pré. While enjoying our wines we could admire the Dolomites from our seats. The perfect way to kick off any winter season dedicated to excellent skiing, food and wine in style. - Sheldrick Wildlife Trust | Voyages & Journeys
"Elephants are the Gardeners of Eden". Journey into the heart of this phenomenal conservation work. Home - The Numinous - DSWT Sheldrick Wildlife Trust May-2021 Born from one family’s passion for Kenya and its wilderness, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is one of the pioneering conservation organisations for wildlife and habitat protection in East Africa. Founded in 1977 by Dr Dame Daphne Sheldrick DBE , in memory of her late husband, famous naturalist and founding Warden of Tsavo East National Park, David Leslie William Sheldrick MBE , the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust claims a rich and deeply rooted family history in wildlife and conservation. In 1948, David Sheldrick began his renowned career within the Royal National Parks of Kenya, where he worked unwaveringly for over two decades transforming Tsavo, a previously unchartered and inhospitable land, into Kenya’s largest and most famous National Park. David Sheldrick stands out, even today, as one of Africa’s most famous and proficient pioneer National Park Wardens. The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is best known for their phenomenal work with elephants, operating the most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world. While the Orphans’ Project is the heart of the organisation, it cannot exist in isolation and over the last 40 years the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has developed an extensive, multi-faceted approach to conservation to ensure a greater and long-lasting impact for wildlife. Through their Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, they are continuously and actively safeguarding the natural environment and providing immediate assistance to wild animals in need. Their renowned Orphans’ Project allows them to respond and rescue orphaned baby elephants, rhinos, and all other wild species across Kenya, so that they might enjoy a life back in the wild when grown up. We had the amazing opportunity to ask a few questions to Angela Sheldrick . Daughter of David and Daphne Sheldrick, Angela was brought up in the wilds of Tsavo East. She has been exposed to Kenya’s wildlife and wild places all her life and heads The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and all its operations in Kenya and has done since 2001. Having a family DNA like yours, with your parents being pioneers in the field of Wildlife Conservation, we can only imagine the great life lessons passed on to you. Which values do you treasure the most until today? Growing up, immersed in nature, my family was much larger than just its human members. I grew up surrounded by an eclectic assortment of creatures, including Bunty the impala, Jimmy the kudu, and my special friend, Baby the eland. In this environment, I could not help but be instilled with a respect for our natural world. I grew up guided by a need to do better for all life that shares our beautiful world and to use one of my favourite quotes from my mum, “We only have one home, the Earth, and we as the dominant species must take care of it." In day to day, that means showing patience, empathy, determination to successfully rehabilitate orphaned elephants, courage and an ability to turn the page when, despite all our efforts, an infant might not pull through. Daphne was never daunted by a challenge and neither are we – taking in orphaned elephants that few believe might survive, or have a wild future, like Rama, our newest rescue who is a severely bow-legged little elephant. But we must always try. Then, there is the humbling lesson that despite our decades of wildlife conservation, we still have much to understand. My father, David Sheldrick, said it best: “The more one knows about animals, the more one realises how much we still have to learn." I have spent my entire life around elephants, yet they continue to astonish me in the very best way. We can all learn so much from these social species, committed as they are to family and nothing makes me prouder than watching the elephants in action: dependent orphans inquisitively meeting wild friends, bulls lazing in the mud bath, ex orphans arriving with their families in tow, calves gambolling between the legs of their nannies. Put simply, they never cease to amaze us and we shall never stop in our efforts to keep them safe. How many reintegration centres does the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) operate? It might first be helpful to explain what our pioneering Reintegration Units are and do. Our ultimate goal is for each orphan that we rescue is to transition from our care and return to the wild. But this must be at the right time, when they are no longer milk-dependent and can hold their own against the challenges and threats they will face in the wild. A Reintegration Unit then, is like College or University, where the orphans can hone their wild instincts and ultimately return to a free life. Interestingly, every orphan is different and explores elephant society at a pace that works for them – and it is the orphans themselves that determine when they return to the wild. To enable these orphans a second chance at a life in the wild, we operate three Reintegration Units as part of our Orphans’ Project in the Tsavo Conservation Area, which follow a blueprint for rehabilitation first established by my mother. VOI is our original Unit, built in the very same place that Daphne and David first discovered the secrets of hand-raising orphaned milk-dependent wild animals. It sits in Tsavo East, with unending plains stretching out as far as the eye can see. Its mud bath and watering hole is a pivotal stop for elephant herds as they migrate through, affording lots of interactions with the orphans. In 2004, we added Ithumba which is the jewel in Tsavo’s crown. The vast, unspoilt wilderness that Ithumba offers simply doesn’t exist in Kenya anymore, and it is a true haven for elephants, with wild herds in the area secure in the knowledge that this is a place where they are protected. Over 60 orphaned elephants have returned to the wild from here, with 15 calves born to female orphans (that we know of!). Incredibly, and testament to the strong bonds forged between our Keepers and their charges, these orphans choose to share their new bundles of joy with us only hours after birth – an incredible privilege. Lastly, there is Umani Springs, built especially for more vulnerable orphans in our care. A cast of incredibly brave characters who have surmounted the odds to be with us today call Umani home, surviving snare, gunshot, spear and maiming by predators. While some might not be able to cover the vast distances needed in more arid environments, in the Kibwezi Forest, they have forage and fresh water, protection and wild herds, right on their doorstep. It’s no understatement to say the herd here is blazing through uncharted territory. Importantly, this specialist centre has allowed us to deliver on our promise that we make to every orphan, enabling even those elephants who have been robbed of everything to live a full and wildlife, in a beautiful safe environment that we manage and protect positioned within an extensive unspoilt ecosystem. It should be said that creating these Units is no small task. Before establishing Ithumba, we installed a 63-kilometre electric fenceline, which continues to be patrolled daily. We also assisted in re-establishing the KWS headquarters in the North, funding necessities like rangers’ accommodation, offices and workshops, fuel tanks, water catchment tanks, desalination and the installation of a generator. For Umani, we had worked for years in the area taking on a concession to manage the forest in partnership with the Kenya Forest Service and Kenya Wildlife Service, to stop illegal extractive activities and ensure it became the safe haven for wildlife it is today. How many animals are currently under your care? There are currently more than 80 orphaned elephants in our care, not forgetting our characterful black rhinos Apollo and Maxwell. The latter is congenitally blind so will always have a protected home with us. However, our promise to rescue, raise, and reintegrate orphans back into the wild isn’t just one that we make to elephants - it’s a commitment that we make to all wild orphans who pass through our care. So there is also an ever-growing menagerie being cared for at our Kaluku Field Headquarters, including an orphaned eland, oryx and lesser kudu, as well as Bristle, an orphaned ostrich. As with the elephant and rhino orphans, these individuals will reintegrate into local populations their own pace, although many choose to stay close by to their human family. Next to the Orphans’ Projects, the DSWT is actively combating poaching. Could you explain a little bit how does it work? Raising elephants is just a small part of what we do because without taking care of the bigger picture, it would be futile. We need to know that when these baby elephants go back into the wild, we have the resources in place, together in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service, to make sure that they’re protected for the future. Not just the orphans, but the giants of the plains that mentor them too. That’s why we operate 16 anti-poaching teams in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service, drawn from people across Kenya, which are supported in the air by an Air Wing. These fully trained and equipped teams operate across Tsavo, and in Meru National Park, to ensure no illegal activities are taking place, and if they are, we are able to respond swiftly. It’s a big operation, but it’s so very needed. Logging, bushmeat snaring, bushfires, grazing charcoal burning – these are all illegal in conservation areas and present a huge threat to all wildlife, reducing forage and habitats. In a world where our natural environment is becoming increasingly patchwork, saving these remaining pockets of natural beauty is vital – not only for the orphans but for all animals too. It’s the eleventh hour now. We really have to ensure that what we have left is saved for future generations. Over the years, we are also seeing more and more cases of human-wildlife conflict which is bringing the work of our Saving Habitats project to the fore. And, more immediately, we fund five Mobile Vet Units, headed by KWS Vets, who provide urgent veterinary care across the country to animals injured by poachers and human-wildlife conflict. They’ve attended 2,851 elephants to date – an astonishing number, working to keep our precious elephant population fighting fit so animals can continue to roam the plains as they were destined to. How does the DSWT approaches sustainable travel? All our conservation projects are rooted in a respect for our Natural World so it made sense that when we established our Eco Lodges, this mantra would guide a visitor’s experience. There are three camps in Ithumba, the northern area of Tsavo East National Park that David Sheldrick deemed a “jewel in the crown”; two on the Galana River, a nexus for Kenya’s most iconic species; and one in the Kibwezi Forest, a lush groundwater forest on the base of rolling hills. All of our Eco Lodges follow the same template, that of low impact and built seamlessly into the surrounding areas paying special attention to their interiors as well, something I take great pride in doing. We let each Lodge out to a maximum of 10 guests, ensuring an exclusive stay and an approach that reduces our footprint and ensures properties are designed to preserve the integrity of the wilderness, and support conservation. What makes these lodges doubly special is that all proceeds from the Eco Lodges are reinvested into our field projects, and support our vital conservation efforts in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service. Guests can experience our lifesaving work first-hand: Each Eco Lodge sits within close proximity to one of our three Reintegration Units, and guests are granted access to visit the orphaned elephants there. «««« Check their fantastic adoption program and support this phenomenal organization: www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans If you would like to visit or add it to your itinerary, contact us and let’s start plan your great next adventure. www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org www.instagram.com/sheldricktrust < Previous Article Next Article >

Famous for exceptionally dry snow, plenty of sunshine and awe-inspiring terrain; Chile has some of the best skiing and heli-skiing in the southern hemisphere. Within a short distance of Santiago, the mighty Andes rise to heights of over 6000 metres above sea level and boast some of the most incredible terrain and snow conditions in South America. Fly through a primeval landscape punctuated by ancient glaciers and snow-capped peaks to find the line of your dreams. Ambitious skiers looking to push their comfort zones will meet their match while those looking for some easier turns will have plenty of options to choose from as well. The alpine ski terrain offers an exciting assortment of open bowls, steep couloirs, and mellow glacier runs. Aspen, Colorado (USA) Best time: December to February In the rarefied air and fresh fallen snow, high up in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains lies Aspen, America’s best skiing. Aspen provides the travellers a world-class mountain slope that caters to all levels of skiers and riders. From downtown Aspen, Colorado, guests to the Roaring Fork Valley can experience four mountains within minutes of one another. The wonderfully Victorian throwback architecture in downtown Aspen offers a glimpse into the Elk Mountains' storied mining-boom era. Expert skiing is what Aspen Mountain, or "Ajax Mountain" and Aspen Highlands are known for. There is no better place for top-to-bottom runs thanks to Ajax’ Silver Queen Gondola’s almost 1-kilometre vertical ascent. Aspen Mountain is famous for its long, steep mogul runs and challenging fall-line. Those with a spirit of adventure can also get their kicks by hiking the 700 vertical feet to the top of famed Aspen Highland Bowl. You will be rewarded at the Bowl’s summit with one Aspen Snowmass’ best views and an unparalleled off-piste experience. British Columbia, Canada Best time: December to February Located on the rugged west coast of Canada, lies one of the most sought-after ski destinations in the world, Whistler, a true alpine paradise. Being the largest ski region in all of North America, it is practically impossible to get bored on these twin mountains, which are connected by the world’s largest, tallest gondola. Both contain steep, powder-filled chutes and bowls, perfectly spaced tree-runs, big wide-open groomers, terrain parks for every level, and just about everything else you could want. For those who really want to get away from the crowds, though, Whistler offers heli-skiing, where you and a few friends can blast down long, untouched slopes of every ability level. Chamonix, France Best time: January to March At the foot of Mont Blanc, Chamonix’s one of the oldest and most prestigious resorts in France and hosted the first ever Winter Olympics in 1924. The 150km area is relatively small compared to others in the country, but its range of challenging terrain and red and black runs is unbeatable for experienced skiers. The ultimate must-do is the 20km Vallée Blanche, one of the most famous off-piste routes in the world. If you’re more of an intermediate, explore the blues around Le Tour, Les Houches and Brévent-Flégère. Legendary Chamonix should be on any ski or snowboard bucket list. Chamonix has an allure for the hard core & adventurous, with world renowned off-piste skiing and freeriding. Some of the lines are so challenging that one may need to wear a diaper to avoid embarrassment! The area is dominated by the highest mountain in Western Europe, 4810m Mont Blanc. It serves as a playground for extreme sports enthusiasts and the ooh-aah brigade. Between ice climbing, paragliding and extreme skiing, it is not surprising that Chamonix has been described as the "the death-sport capital of the world"! One must only view the engineering for the amazing Aiguille du Midi cable cars in order to comprehend those parts of Chamonix are on the edge. Courchevel, France Best time: mid-December to February Have access to the largest ski area in the world. Courchevel is one the most glamorous ski areas in Les Trois Vallées, with a lift system linking to Meribel and Val Thorens, guests can enjoy access to one of the most exciting and extensive ski areas in the world, truly a destination for the ski enthusiasts. The freshly groomed slopes, breathtaking views across to Mount Blanc, guaranteed snow and terrain that caters for skiing or boarding abilities all mount up to why this is the jewel of alpine skiing. If you have a passion for memorable dining experiences, then rejoice! Courchevel is almost as world-famous for its epicurean delicacies as it is for its pristine slopes. It offers a multitude of family-friendly fun, including learning to ski, snowboarding and snowshoeing, sledging and night skiing. For a little bit more adventure, why not try a husky dog-sled ride or heli-skiing. Denali, Alaska Best time: February to April Alaska offers endless spectacular adventures, one of them being top notch skiing. Holding more than 1 million acres of skiing terrain and with over 15 meters of light snow each winter season, Alaska offers some of the most exciting winter activities. From heli skiing and boarding, to snowshoeing and ice fishing. The endless terrain and colossal vertical feet paired with expert guides and pilots make heli skiing in Alaska unparalleled. Whether you are an intermediate skier or a world-class carver. The Tordrillo Mountains are one of the most pristine ski areas in Alaska and offer some of the most diverse and exciting skiing, heli-skiing and snowboarding terrain in the world, with over 1.2 million acres of terrain and 15 meters of snow each season. Runs top out at 2290 meters and end at 600 meters with spectacular panoramic views of Denali and volcanic summits. Winter temperatures average -12 to -3 degrees Celsius with powder snow and corn snow. Dolomites, Italy Best time: December to end-March Unique in so many ways, this jagged ridge of 18 limestone peaks stitches together a region vastly independent from the rest of the Alps, like the bohemian branch of a grand old aristocratic family. All this distilled Alpine gorgeousness are the rifugi, traditional cosy mountain huts sprinkled across the valleys, villages, and slopes that act as restaurant and café in one, offering delicious cuisine and the requisite espresso hit between ski runs. The area’s 1207 kilometre of gently sloped terrain, which is often blanketed in dry, powdery snow are protected from the tempestuous northerly storms, chances are you’ll get a cloudless sky (there are 300 glorious sun-flooded days a year here, said to be more than anywhere else in the Alps). The vast Dolomiti Super ski Area has long been a draw for pro skiers and powder-hunting freerides, with heli-skiing options among the craggy peaks of the Sella Ronda. But the South Tyrol area in general is about so much more than skiing. To the east, the pine-covered, craggy Alta Badia valley has an ancient Ladin culture and serious locavore food, from centuries-old agritourism’s to the three-Michelin-starred St Hubertus. Greenland Heli-skiing Best time: late-March to mid-May Greenland is one of the most spectacular places to ski in the world, offering skiing at its purest and most thrilling. Nowhere else can you drop from summit to sea in a single descent. A snow-capped wilderness with deep untracked powder and glacial runs dropping as much as 2000 metres to the fjords below awaits. With a helicopter to lift you from your yacht’s helipad high up into the most heavily glaciated, dramatic mountains imaginable, you can spend a day of sensational skiing, then return to the comfort of your waiting yacht. While the waters off the east of Greenland are dense with sea ice, most heli-skiing yacht charters focus on the wild west coast of Greenland. There’s some world-class backcountry skiing around Maniitsoq Island, home to colourful little clapboard villages, pristine rivers, and pods of visiting humpback whales. Maniitsoq Island opens the gates to vast and deep fjords encompassing the most beautiful mountains in the region, including the 100km-long, endlessly forking inlet that is Eternity Fjord, where glacier upon glacier pours down from towering peaks. Here you can ski glaciers, couloirs, vast bowls, and virgin snow that’s never once been skied before. Further north again is Disko Bay, carving the most impressive icebergs of the Northern Hemisphere. This is a magnificent fjords cape and a UNESCO World Heritage site, offering mythic vistas, empty blue skies, and spring snow so light it’s like skiing on a cloud. Iceland (Northern) Best time: February to June When the snow starts melting in Europe you head to Northern Iceland, where the deep and cold snowpack stay well into June, making it perfect for skiing spring powder all the way to sea level. The best skiing in the mountains & fjords across the Atlantic Ocean is made by helicopter, take your alpine experience to another level. Long descents over the North Atlantic Ocean are punctuated by never ending sunsets. Skiing in Iceland is an exceptional experience. Heli-assisted ascents leading to wide, open bowls and limitless terrain ignites new exploration in even the most seasoned of skiers. Long daylight hours allow us to choose the best time of day to ski given the weather and snow conditions. Early season and stormy periods equal powder skiing in a maritime climate, while long sunny days transition the snow into perfect corn skiing. Japan Best time: January & early-February Japan is truly the holy grail for skiers who love to ski deep powder snow and beautiful trees, the snow in Japan is super light, extraordinarily dry and unbelievably fun to ski or ride. No matter if you travel to Hokkaido, Hakuba or Niseko, the mountains are known for frequent snowfall, in addition to the great snow, Japan offers a welcoming and unique culture, a variety of incredible food from incredible sushi to Ramen, and an overall ski vacation experience that you just won’t find anywhere else. The adrenaline junkies won’t think twice when they experience the quality of the snow in Japan. For those looking to take a break from the powder, most resorts also have plenty of groomed runs and night skiing is also very popular. Lyngen Alps, Norway Best time: March & April Imagine standing on the top of a snowy summit in the Lyngen Alps of northern Norway. You look down at the fjord with the sunshine sparkling. You adjust your equipment one last time, then head down the slope, making a first descent of untouched snow that take you from summit to sea. The Lyngen Alps are about 90km long & 20km wide with the highest point being 1,833m above sea level - literally! The range includes glaciers, steep couloirs, gentle bowls & some tree-skiing down low. Summits typically skied in the Lyngen Alps are less than 1200m altitude, with descents going all the way down to sea level. Another of Lyngen Alps geographical benefits is shared with much of the Arctic - its proximity to the stunning phenomenon of the Aurora Borealis. St. Anton & Arlberg, Austria Best time: January to March Located in the heart of one of the snowiest places in Europe, St Anton am Arlberg is a premier ski destination that is difficult for other ski regions to rival. St Anton has vast off-piste terrain plus consistent, deep snowpack and powder. It is particularly popular with expert skiers, but equally enjoyed by families and intermediates. St Anton has something for everyone but is an especially good experience for advanced skiers. Even though there are relatively few black runs on-piste, the off-piste routes & freeride terrain is vast. For extreme riders, the tight chutes near the Valluga summit and other areas will scare the pants off most. The village of St Anton is cosy with a distinct Austrian charm, in contrast to the vibrant St Anton après & party atmosphere. You come for the skiing; you stay for the world-renowned nightlife! St. Moritz, Switzerland Best time: December to March A particular humour, an appreciation of the finer things, but perhaps above all an elegantly madcap eccentricity. This is a place of moonlight ice-skating and Cresta Run sledding; of cricket, polo and skijoring behind galloping horses on the frozen St Moritzersee. Silliness anywhere else, perhaps, but somehow civilised here. There’s nothing more thrilling than seeing St. Moritz’s closest mountain, Corviglia, covered in radiant white powder snow. Corviglia is not only the birthplace of Alpine winter sports, but it is also responsible for the start of winter tourism over 150 years ago. St. Moritz is one of the best winter sports regions in the world, so it’s no surprise that it has already hosted two Winter Olympic Games and five Alpine Ski World Championships. Altogether, the region boasts an incredible 87 pistes that all conform to World Cup quality standards. Experience the difference for yourself. Verbier, Switzerland Best time: end-November to February With its sunny slopes, devastating scenery, exciting skiing and lively après ski, Verbier, Switzerland, is rightly lauded as one of the must-visit resorts in the world. Verbier is the principal resort in Switzerland's extensive 4 Valleys (4 Vallées) ski domain, which stretches from the ski area of Bruson, just south of Verbier, all the way to the slopes of Thyon-Les-Collons above the town of Sion. The vast majority of Verbier's ski area is comprised of high-altitude terrain well above the tree line. This is a serious high-mountain ski area where the focus is on off-piste and freeriding, with many marked routes left ungroomed to preserve the powder lines and to allow mogul fields to develop. Verbier is one of the very few ski resorts in the world to feature a lift-served peak that doesn't have any pisted runs at all; the only routes off the summit of Mont Gele are itineraires, which are way-marked runs that are never groomed. Verbier is not for the fainthearted. Wanaka, New Zealand Best time: August & September With long winters in the mountains, awe-inspiring destinations, and a unique ski culture, New Zealand definitely deserves a spot on your winter sports bucket list. Experience an unforgettable winter with epic slopes and alpine resorts on your New Zealand ski holiday. A winter wonderland with snow experiences to suit every level of skier or snowboarder. Choose from the snowy peaks of the North Island or the wide-open terrains of the South Island. The mountains surrounding the world-renowned resort towns of Queenstown and Wanaka feature thrilling backcountry terrain and dramatic scenery. Enjoy an unforgettable day of heli-ski or heli-board bliss before savouring the vibrant après ski nightlife each location offers. Zermatt, Switzerland Best time: January & February Zermatt is one of the most beautiful spots in the Alps. At the foot of the country’s iconic Matterhorn Mountain, which soars 4479 meter above sea level in a stunning, pyramid shape. Found in Valais, just six miles from the Theodul Pass, which borders Italy, Zermatt is never short of fresh powder, avid skiers, and views of some of the highest peaks in the country. With 147 different runs. With 54 lifts and 360 km of powder, there’s a little something for skiers of all abilities. Zermatt also offers a wide range of Heli-skiing, you will have a kingdom of snow-capped mountains at your feet, hurtling down the steepest slopes and leaving tracks in the finest powder snow is a feeling you must experience for yourself. Heli-skiing in Zermatt makes two dreams come true.
- Contact | Voyages & Journeys
We have a team of well knowledgeable travel professionals who would love to get to know you and your travel ideas. Get it touch and let's do it together. Click Here and Contact Us How do we Operate The adventures and journeys that we design at Voyages & Journeys are innovative and ambitious. Every itinerary is tailored completely to you, your family, or your group requirements. 1. Initial contact At Voyages & Journeys, we find very important to first get to know each other, through a meeting in person or (video) call. This first contact allows us to properly build the foundation for a trustworthy relationship. Furthermore, we can also really understand your ideas, inspiration and what you are hoping to achieve from your experience. 2. Deposit We take great satisfaction in providing you with our services and guarantee that every tiny detail of your journey is conscientious planned. We will request for a deposit of €350 before we start designing your adventure. This secures the time we need to provide you with a proposal that will show you the details in perfection. If at this moment you are thinking “Why should I pay €350 in advanced?”, the answer is very simple and transparent: Everything we provide does not come from a blue screen as you might be used to from your day-to-day travel advisor. At V&J we draft every detail from scratch, requiring a fair amount of time and resources to draft up your first proposal. 3. Research & development With the information that we have collected during our first interaction, we will head to the drawing board and start with extensive research, as your trip starts to develop. We work with our network of global partners that are pioneers in their profession and we will work together to design the most exceptional experiences for you. 4. First presentation We will schedule a meeting or video call to present you options, each with different levels of luxury, action, adventure, and exclusivity. Once you have had the time to evaluate our proposals, we will schedule another meeting to discuss in greater detail and define the final result. 5. Budget transparency On the first presentation we will provide a thorough estimate of costs. With this overview you can oversee every detail of your journey, worked hours from your travel specialist, accommodations, transportation, etc. 6. Eventuality Fund From experience, we have learnt that things can change unexpectedly. Reason why we propose to hold a contingency fund for your trip based on the total amount of the journey (refunded at the end of your journey if unused). This allows us (company and client), to accommodate the necessary arrangements on your journey without disturbing you for further payments. Example: with the Covid-19 spreading rate around the globe, some clients needed last minute changes to be able to get to their countries without any problems, and this fund prevented stress related situations. 7. Time needed to plan your journeys Each journey and adventure are different, some people like to plan well in advance and others live for the spontaneous moments or are constrained by work. An itinerary can be planned in 36 hours or can take up to 12 months - it all depends on the type of adventure. Due to the uniqueness of our experiences around the globe, we encounter situations that we need to acquire all the necessary permits which can take up to 12 months. When an itinerary is requested last minute, we will use our experience and global network to see what is possible. Nonetheless, we will never compromise our high standards. Your dedicated travel specialist will advise you through this once we confirmed your essentials. Please be aware that we operate on an hourly rate of €67,50. 8. It is all on the details For each itinerary, we carry out intense risk assessments and due diligence to ensure that every tiny detail is taken into consideration. If needed, we even conduct a reconnaissance of your journey to create exceptional experiences on the spot! When you are satisfied, we will then confirm everything. 9. Payment process The payment terms will vary from journey to journey. We will discuss the payment methods and terms with you during our initial contact (step 1). Normally, we will request the deposit of €350, and after the approval of the itinerary we will request a first payment of 50%. 90 days before departure we will request the final 50% of the total amount. When we are requested to plan and deliver an itinerary last minute (for example 7 days ahead of departure) we will require the deposit of €350 right away and full payment of a 100% within 48 hours after delivering the final proposal. Please be aware that we do not accept credit card payments. Also, we will not agree on payments being made directly to third parties by the client itself. We do accept physical payment by credit card of any type and bank transfer. 10. Preparations When the final itinerary is approved, we closely monitor every feature of your journey including the situation of the destination. You will receive our V&J box, that includes all your travel necessities + extras. You will also receive a digital detailed itinerary that includes profiles of your host, guides and our advice on vaccinations, documentation, packing lists and important contacts. With our extreme adventures itineraries, we will advise and guide you through all the gear purchase, preparations and necessary training You will be more than ready! 11. During your travels Throughout your journey, whether our specialist is with you or not, we ensure 24/7 support to make sure you can enjoy a worry-free vacation.

Without a doubt, Iceland offers some of the most mind blowing heliskiing on the planet, and if you want to ski here this is a destination that it is well worth committing to a multi-day package. Descent from remote flat-topped summits looking out across the North Atlantic down huge snowfields all the way to that same ocean; there are very few places on Earth where you can do this. Or head to a secret land in the far north where the skiing is epic, and the adventures are just a bit different. It is a place where jagged peaks rise out of shimmering seas like snow-white shark’s teeth. Where intrepid skiers land on black-sand beaches and ski tour to serene summits. The Lyngen fjord is located inside Norway's Arctic Circle where you will experience a perfect combination of nature and luxury. Watching the Northern Lights, unravel above you, you are assured to see nature at its absolute best. But we notice that we are all quick to jump to the Northern Hemisphere for a spot of heli-assisted adventure or an epic ski touring escape, without knowing how much the Southern hemisphere has to offer. The Andes Mountain range that straddles the border of Chile and Argentina. Giving thrill-seekers an alternating season to the top half of the globe, Chile is renowned for its perfect balance of touring terrain and some of the Southern Hemisphere’s healthiest snowfall depths. The famous Chugach range in Alaska has 750000 acres permitted for heli-ski operators, only a handful of groups of five people are allowed to ski it daily. That means fresh, unbroken powder on just about every run and a more exclusive skiing experience. The Chugach Mountains receive an annual average of nearly 700 inches of snow and has a reputation for iconic big lines. Russia likely wouldn’t usually spring to mind as the type of place you would like to go skiing but the wilderness of the former Soviet Union’s Far East is overlooked when it comes to heli-skiing. The end-of-the-earth, Kamchatka Peninsula, is located between the Sea of Okhotsk and the Bering Sea is home to the greatest concentration of active volcanoes anywhere on the planet. Along with the raw, breathtaking scenery, Kamchatka’s mountainous region is covered in delicious white powder during the winter, making it a perfect heli-skiing destination for those who want to shred snow that’s never been shredded before. Thinking about Turkey, skiing isn’t necessarily the first activity that comes to mind. Which makes the Kaçkar mountain range a well-guarded secret. Located in the north-eastern reaches of Turkey, the mountains are harried by frequent storms blowing off the Black Sea, which result in amazingly fresh, deep snow. The highest point is 3937 meters, which is a hell of a descent. Japan’s north, Hokkaido’s huge mountainous expanse experiences up to 30 metres of super high-quality snow during the peak of the season, making it your dreamland for heli-skiing. Surrounded by dormant volcanoes and skeleton forests covered in white snow. Head to the top of the 1100-meter Shiribetsu-Dake volcano. But be warned, this one is not for amateurs, with the average run over 650 meters long and encountering some steep sections with wicked curves. - Ocean Conservation | Voyages & Journeys
The oceans that roam our planet are the most crucial ecosystems we have, every life and every organism on earth depends on it. Home - Ocean Conservation Ocean Conservation with V&J Healthy oceans regulate climate and reduce climate change impacts The oceans that roam our planet are the most crucial ecosystems we have, every life and every organism on earth depends on it. An estimated 97% of the world’s water is found in the ocean. Because of this, the ocean has considerable impact on weather, temperature, and the food supply of humans and other organisms. Despite its size and impact on the lives of every organism on Earth, the ocean remains one of the biggest mysteries in the world. More than 80% of the ocean has never been mapped, explored, or even seen by humans. A far greater percentage of the surfaces of the moon and the planet Mars has been mapped and studied than of our own ocean floor. Conservation and preservation of our biodiversity stands at the core of our ethos. With every great adventure or family vacation we design and carry out, we make sure local communities and conservation projects benefit from our journeys. With rising sea temperatures and increasing pollution threatening the health of the ocean, there is an urgent need for scientists to access some of the world’s most remote areas. This is where V&J comes in. Through our yacht expeditions segment, we provide a unique opportunity of ocean access, marine research, and global knowledge to enhance the ocean’s prosperity. With the cooperation of the Client, we donate a time frame within the expedition duration to marine scientists and conservation experts to conduct vital research. There are so many exciting ocean conservation initiatives to be actioned upon around the world, besides donating time during a yacht expedition we also take a percentage from our margins and donate that money to ocean conservation projects we support. Sometimes the client even wants to join us in this donation. Below, we listed a few of the ocean conservation projects we support with our donations. Sea Shepherd seashepherd.org Sea Shepherd’s work and impact is, for some, still underestimated. As supporters to their global mission, we see it as part of our initiative to educate the importance of their work they do around the globe. Working under direct supervision, and in complete partnership with governments around the world, Sea Shepherd provides fully equipped vessels, professional crews, fuel, and other tools that enhance their ability to detect and deter Illegal, unreported and unregulated (“IUU”) fishing. In the last five years, they assisted governmental law enforcers as they arrested dozens of vessels, resulting in numerous successful prosecutions. These efforts increased monetary recoveries and reduced subsequent maritime crimes and helped restore fish populations. The Ocean Cleanup theoceancleanup.com Plastic pollution in our oceans is the biggest problem we are facing today. Besides ensuring that waste management is fully optimized during our expeditions we support the biggest ocean clean up in the history of the world. The Ocean Cleanup is a non-profit organization, that develops and uses technologies to get rid of the world’s oceans of plastic. Believe or not trash already accumulates in five ocean garbage patches, the largest one being the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, located between Hawaii and California. Floating plastics trapped in the patches will keep circulating until they break down into smaller and smaller pieces, becoming harder to clean up and increasingly easier to mistake for food by Sealife. If left to circulate, the plastic will impact our ecosystems, health, and economies for decades or even centuries. Mission Blue mission-blue.org Led by legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle, Mission Blue inspires action to explore and protect our oceans and all marine life. It is their mission to create public awareness, access, and support for a worldwide network of marine protected areas also known as Hope Spots. For example, not that long ago the President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, signed an official decree enhancing the marine protected area (“MPA”) around the Galapagos Archipelago in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean. The decree will expand protections by 60.000 square kilometres (23.166 square miles); half of which will be fully protected where no extractive activities are allowed, and the efforts of Mission Blue had a significant impact on this initiative. Under Dr. Earle’s leadership, the Mission Blue team embarks on many communication campaigns, regular oceanic expeditions that shed light on these vital ecosystems and build support for their protection. The Mission Blue alliance includes more than 200 respected ocean conservation groups and like-minded organizations, from large multinational companies to individual scientific teams doing important research. With the concerted effort and passion of people and organizations around the world, Hope Spots can become a reality and form a global network of marine protected areas large enough to restore the ocean, the blue heart of the planet. The Great Reef Census greatreefcensus.org Exploring the unknown is part of every adventurer’s DNA, though very rarely is there an opportunity to discover areas where little is already known by superyacht. At Voyages & Journeys we use every opportunity we have during our yacht adventures to support conservation projects around the world. Did you know almost 40% of the Great Barrier Reef remains entirely unexplored. Encompassing 3.000 individual reefs and home to over 1.600 species of fish that stretch for 2.300km along the sun-drenched Queensland coastline, it’s a unique yachting experience. Due to its sheer size measuring the overall state of the Reef is difficult. The Great Reef Census is a world-first citizen science project. For ocean conservation, this is a pioneering initiative, aiming to capture investigative data. This is a unique opportunity for superyacht owners and charters to participate in ocean conservation efforts as part of your yacht expedition, you can join marine scientists and gain a deeper insight into the Great Barrier Reef’s diverse ecosystem. We pride our partnership with Ocean Alliance, where we can create a significant impact and provide support to marine research projects. Superyachts and especially exploration yachts provide highly advanced research capabilities, that make it able to tackle the conservation challenges we face and work towards the vital protection of our blue planet.
